McCOURTNEY REAL ESTATE
Although located in unincorporated Grass Valley, the McCourtney
area is an area of ranches and farms.
McCOURTNEY PROPERTY
McCourtney property consists of horse ranches, emu ranches and
llama ranches dotting the rolling, grassy hills. Covering the west
side of the Grass Valley city limits, west of Grass Valley along
McCourtney Road, including the Wolf Mountain and Clear Creek areas,
and Highway 20 west of Grass Valley to Rex Reservoir Road.
McCOURTNEY BUSINESS COMMUNITY
The Economic Resource Council (ERC) is located on the eastern portion
of McCourtney Road, as are several other professional office buildings
The ERC, dedicated to supporting business in the area, lists a
total of 92 high tech companies in the Grass Valley/Nevada City
area.
For the most part, the area is ranch land. However, a Yoga Farm,
a resort camp, and a senior center are all located here
McCOURTNEY SCHOOLS
McCourtney Road schools include a K-8 public school, Clear Creek,
and a four-year public charter high school, Bitney Springs High
School.
McCOURTNEY RECREATION
McCourtney Road recreation includes North Star Power House and
Pelton Wheel Mining Exhibit, considered by the American Society
of Mechanical Engineers to be one of the most diverse displays of
hard-rock mining equipment in the US. The museum building was the
North Star Mine Powerhouse, powered solely by Pelton wheel —
the link between the waterwheel and the modern generator.
The original 30 ft Pelton wheel, the largest in the world, is on
display along with a stamp mill and a working Cornish pump used
to draw water out of mine shafts.
The museum has a secluded picnic area; just walk across the bridge
that crosses Wolf Creek The 100-acre Nevada County Fairgrounds with
its more than 3,000 trees is the site of almost daily activity,
especially during the spring, summer, and fall when events of all
kinds take place. the Nevada County Fair, a true down-home county
fair, attracts thousands over a week in the late summer and other
events range from classical music conerts to home shoes, food and
wine events, draft horse exhibitions, and a seasonal farmers market.
A small 4.5-acre lake offers fishing for children 12 and under
and there are shaded camping sites for trailers and motor homes.
